My friend Joy emailed some photos to me, including this one. She sent them from El Veijo, Nicaragua. She took some photos from a small village of Huipinte.

We take the blue bird school buses to this little dusty place where we find a little open hut filled with women making cheese they sell at the markets in El Veijo.
Her caption for this photo: "It is really rare that I saw a mother with a child. It was always some young sibling. As young as 7 years here. "

Good luck to you Joy! Keep sending the photos along, and take care!

When you are in the line of your duty...

Thanks to Stephen for this. Be sure to read the rest of his post!
"My boy, never forget that when you are in the line of your duty your heart will be full of love and forgiveness..., and that when you get out of that straight line of duty and have the determination that what you think is justice... should prevail, you ofttimes are anything but happy."

Bible scholar.

Christmas is the only time you ever hear about Harold the Angel, and I'm pretty sure it's because the other angels were jealous of his vocal work with hymns and carols. As a result, they excluded him from all the cool projects that would have made him famous.

I'm sure Raphael said to Gabriel at some point, "No, we're not inviting Harold to help us map the course of the Euphrates River. He gets his time in the sun every damn December. For 30 days out of the year, all you hear is 'Hark! The Harold Angel sings.'"

Profits and poverty

I'm very interested in this book. Its interesting, especially in relation to concepts on microenterprise.

The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid. Eradicating Poverty Through Profits.: "IF WE stop thinking of the poor as victims or as a burden and start recognising them as resilient and creative entrepreneurs and value-conscious consumers, a whole new world of opportunity will open up. That simple proposition begins a controversial new management book that seems destined to be read not just in boardrooms but also in government offices. "The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid. Eradicating Poverty Through Profits" (Wharton School Publishing), is essentially a rallying cry for big business to put serving the world's 5 billion or so poorest people at the heart of their profit-making strategies. It has already been praised by everyone from Bill Gates, "a blueprint for fighting poverty," to a former American secretary of state, Madeleine Albright, "if you are looking for fresh thinking about emerging markets, your search is ended."

Has anyone ever wondered WHY "theyyyy're GREAT!" I was just thinking that. I had some Frosted Flakes for the first time in like 5 years and I am thinking, "Man, these ARE actually pretty great!" But now, a few hours later, I am wishing I wasn't so excited about them. I'm excited for later when I get to have my shake! Ugh for processed food! Posted by Hello

I've always liked Othello

I've always enjoyed Othello.

I dunno, maybe it was the super-nice Othello board my Grandfather Robert H. had and I remember him teaching me how to play it at his home we called The Beaches on sixty-second street in Indianapolis.

Maybe it was because he and my older sister Chryssa would play Backgammon and I couldn't understand even the board just to save my life!

Now, Stephen has Othello online for us to rekindle our memories.

Like it? Check out Stephen at www.Zealous.org. I don't know him; I just blogged across him.

My favorite thing about ProvoPulse is that image.

some days when I am driving around town I look up and think I can almost see those 792-feet-tall letters.

www.Herbalife.com vs. www.StartHerbalife.com

Once again, the Herbalife corporate teams are working hard to be sure the distributors are getting the tools they need for success. Herbalife.com is such an incredible tool for all customers and distributors. Its also a valuable marketing tool for our company. www.herbalife.com is referred to in all press releases, statements, news articles, etc. People will instinctively go to herbalife.com to learn about Herbalife unless they have someone guiding them elsewhere.

The one special difference between Herbalife.com and StartHerbalife.com is that the latter is for distributors and people who have been referred by distributors.

Once a person clicks to StartHerbalife.com, they will not be able to contact Herbalife to find a coach or distributor. Instead, they will be asked to contact the person who referred them to the site.

See these examples--notice that, on the surface, the websites look exactly the same.

First, www.Herbalife.com

If a new web user goes to herbalife.com and clicks "Getting Herbalife" and then clicks "Get to know your... Distributor... today", this screen comes up, asking people to click where they came from:
  • An Herbalife Distributor/ShapeWorks™ coach referred me.
  • A friend sent me.
  • I saw an advertisement
  • Other

Still on Herbalife.com, if the person clicks "Be A Distributor", and click to the next page, they get four similar options

Either way, once a person clicks one of those options, a "cookie" is set in the browser remembering the preference and the person is either politely encouraged to contact their distributor or they're forwarded to the routing team because they either saw an ad, or they specified "other".

Next, www.StartHerbalife.com:
On StartHerbalife.com, the process is a little different. The corporate marketing team developed this site (and a companion www.StartShapeWorks.com that redirects here) for distributors who wanted to share Herbalife.com with their clients and prospects without fear of them somehow getting connected to another distributor!

So, the moment you click to startherbalife.com, your computer keeps a note saying, "This person already has a distributor!"

See below:

On STARTherbalife.com, however, if a person follows the same procedures, they NEVER get the option to choose where they came from. The website assumes that a distributor referred them to the site because Herbalife corporate will never use startherbalife.com in an advertising campaign, press-release or otherwise. The only people who will forward people to startherbalife.com, therefore, are distributors, or excited customers of distributors who know about startherbalife.com.

Similarly, choosing the "Be A Distributor" link causes the same type of procedure.

What's REALLY cool? (THANK YOU, HERBALIFE!) If you go Just Once to startherbalife.com, and then you go BACK to regular herbalife.com and you try to get connected to a distributor, it still knows you're already connected!. Herbalife has hired some very, very smart web developers down there and they deserve tips in their tip-jars for a job very nicely done! Posted by Hello

Michael Gartenberg: Blogging hits the "West Wing"

"There are some interesting lessons here. First and foremost is post election, weblogs are firmly planted into the consciousness of the mainstream and have even migrated to popular fictional shows like the West Wing. The perception of them, as illustrated by the show, is that they are quick to respond but lack the ethics and rules that journalists play by. While far from an accurate portrayal, reality often doesn't matter in the face of perception. I think today's bloggers are are a misunderstood entity by the mainstream media but it's the mainstream media that shapes public perception."

Please make me apologize

This article mocks some interesting things of our media society today. As a media and communications nerd aficionado, this is a very real issue for the morality of our media

"If someone makes you think a curse word in your mind without physically saying a curse word, did either one of you curse ?"

Face It: RealAge Tip of the Day

Face It (RealAge Tip of the Day)

"Gazing at familiar faces, even in pictures, may help you feel less stressed.

"The look of a familiar face appears to soothe nerves and dampen the stress response, according to a new study. And finding the familiar face in a photograph produces the same effect. Spend time with friends and family when you're feeling stressed and keep photos on hand for times when they can't be near."
